there is a truth we cannot understand
for we are inclined to the evil our souls command
in every prohibition Allah has saved us from misfortune
but we chase our desires, not knowing the danger within
there is harm for us in what He forbade,
why then is it so difficult to stay away

there is a truth our hearts cannot encompass
our selfish souls in doing good deeds are remiss
we care naught for others and lack patience to realize
that with Allah alone is our ultimate prize
every command that Allah has ordained
is but a gift, full of sukoon sustained.

there is a truth to which we are blind
our life's perspectives are narrow and confined
we consider prayer a task and a burden
when really it serves as our greatest weapon
We stand lazy and come because we must
when in reality we should be grateful for this great trust.

thus, there is a truth, we must agree,
alas, there is prosperity for us in every decree

Swore my Lord, though there was no need,
-His words are undoubtedly true indeed-
To begin with His name so that your efforts He may bless
And thus even the greatest failure can become a success

Declared my Lord, in words that resound
A truth so real the mind it confounds
Never does He change a thing or take it away
Except in its place something greater He displays

Wrote my Lord in the heavens a decree
It is by this that destiny comes to be
That ALL things will change, nothing can last
Good or bad all things must pass

How great my Lord, who will forever be
How fortunate if in all things its Him we see.

When your desires are shallow you will find people in your way that you have to fight to get what you want.  But when you desire something higher and more pure, nobody can get in your way.  Its like a crowd fighting to see something in the center--you have to elbow and fight people because what you want is low and worldly.  When you desire something higher and more pure, such as looking at the moon, nobody can block you and everybody can enjoy.

What are you afraid of losing if you follow islam??

At times it seems maybe even a sin can be a test.  The likeness of a total and sudden moment of blindness is parallel to the sudden moment when a light is turned off and you are plunged in utter darkness.  At first your eyes find it impossible to adjust and you are blind for a fleeting moment.  But after a few seconds, your eyes start to adjust and soon you are able to see enough to get by.  Your sudden loss of control over your life is inexplicable.  You find yourself committing sins you didn't even know existed wondering all the while what happened, how you faltered, what you did which was so wrong Allah forsook you and left you to shaytan.  You wonder how you lost hold of what was right...what you did that extinguished the light of iman.  You lose hope and start to despair because you are too weak to climb out of the hole you've plunged into.  But pause for a moment and realize that even your own sin can be a test-- that Allah swt might know your reaction.  Or He tests you--will you love Him or another?  Sins can bring you closer to Allah swt if you call out to Him, begging and pleading.  He guides whomsoever He wishes and if you don't believe He can take the worst sinner and turn him into a saint in a second's time then you have not understood Allah's power.  Do not sin, but if you must, let it be a way for you to attain nearness to your Creator.  It is a dangerous game and few come out successful so it is better not to play it.  However, if you find yourself in such a situation, then cry out to your lord, that He might answer your prayer and bring you out of darkness and into light, out of harm and into success.  If you cannot feel bad for committing a sin then cry out to Allah, "O Allah, make me remorseful for my sins" for verily you are not capable of attaining true tawbah lest Allah swt grants permission to your heart.  Everything is in the power of Allah, and it is only by His favor that we can exist.  Serve Him and He will subject the world to your command.

Remember often that the life of this world is a trap, a dark veil over your senses which deludes you.  Study the definition of this word delusion and you will realize how intoxicating dunya is if it enters the heart.

Life pushes you along, people throw you down, goodness is trampled and desires consume and destroy you like fire swallows wood.

Sometimes life gets busy and we forget who we are.  But check, then, the condition of your iman, for you only forget yourself when you forget your Creator and Sustainer.

How weak is human resolve that it surrenders to a powerless enemy, trading in an instant what it took a lifetime to achieve, for a second's fleeting pleasure.

Sometimes life is pleasing but people disappoint, sometimes life is gentle but people harsh.  sometimes life is generous but people hold back.. But perchance if you are lucky fate will toss you in the company of an individual so true, so honest and sincere, so forbearing and strong that you begin to wonder if he is even human.  Few people in life are worth conquering-those hearts which are firmly rooted in their beliefs, full of courage and merit.  It is those hearts which are unyielding and hardest to conquer because they belong to Allah swt.

Not everyone is deserving of your friendship--it is a harsh reality which if not understood diminishes the value of your merit and attention. You can never understand deception until you yourself have been so utterly deceived no possible excuse is enough to justify their behavior.

Life is nothing but time.  I've heard it since I was a child in so many different forms-- "o man, you are just days" by hasan al basri, or "do not squander time for thats the stuff life is made of" by Benjamin Franklin.  But it is only until recently that i realized the true meaning.  Life is only time--everything has a time and if you miss out you miss out on life.  Every time has something which needs to be done.  Night is to sleep, day is to work.  Tomorrow something different must be done than today.  Prayer is a duty upon prescribed times--you let the time slip and you lose miserably.  The next prayer is also not fard upon you until you reach the time it starts.  Who knows how many prayers are written for you?  Furthermore, it is only the NOW that matters.  It doesnt matter if you were good or bad yesterday.  It doesnt matter how much you accomplished or failed yesterday.  It only matters who and what you are today.  If you fail today your successes of yesterday will not be remembered.  If you succeed today, all your failures no longer matter.  In this I guess is a glad tiding for everyone.

If there is one truth in life, it it that time changes everything--hope turns to despair, despair to dreams, dreams to faith, faith to success.  Time changes grief into happiness and happiness into strength.  Wherever you are, whenever you are, and whatever your condition-- good or bad-- time will alter every aspect, for better or worse.  Time makes love stronger or it sows discord.  It feeds you hope to thrive on or crushes it deep insdie.  Time can enhance your morals and values or find you in the end suffocating in indecency and shame.  It can allow your dreams to come true or it can close every door.  It can heal the deepest wounds or thrust you in hurt and pain.  Life will change with every second that passes and that is guaranteed, regardless of how hard you try to keep things.  What you do have control over, however, and the purpose of this oncurring change, is to test what becomes of you as a person.  Do circumstances change you or are you one person in and of yourself?  Can you be easily swayed, do your actions depend on those of others...is who you are a response to how those are around you?  Understand then, that you are how you react to what life, or time, throws at you.  If you react will to all situations, you will find yourself happy, revered, and successful.  If you react with weak resolve, it will take that much more time before you discover who you are.  Time will teach you who you are--and will be the only thing to allow you to become something else.

Be kind regardless of the actions of others.  We are often kind towards those who are kind towards to us and harsh with those who are harsh towards us.  With great patience, however, it is possible to be kind regardless of how others treat you.  Be who you are independent of how society around you reacts.

Human potential is barely used--wasted instead by gratification of base desires.  On paper life is so easy to live... but it takes great patience and character to exist as a legend.

When you find you've lost yourself an dlife gets out of control and you no longer know answers to anything, take a moment to turn to Allah swt.

Nature or nurture there is a condition that plagues our souls, clouds our senses, impairs our judgment, and inhibits the full use of our human capacity.  As a people we have become lazy such that what people before us were able to accomplish in a year's time, without technology, we cannot accomplish in our life's time with all the resources at our fingertips.  People often say that "times have changed" and the question is, should this matter?  the world has regressed, morality has sunken, and character and honor forgotten.  There may have been advancements in technology but this has somehow caused people to forget how to live.  there is so much materialism around us, so much stuff that we've forgotten ourselves and we've forgotten who we are and where we come from.  Simplicity is a foreign concept filed away in the volumes of Thoreau and Emerson, chanced upon once in a high school career.  The question isn't "what earns respect"- rather, "what SHOULD earn respect?"  For if we mold ourselves to the values of the society we exist in, we, too, will find ourselves not knowing why we breathe, eat, sleep, and interact with one another.  Regardless of how society is we much be as we ought to be--not as our society deems us to be.

Forget about not knowing who we are-- we don't even know what we SHOULD be.  How can we raise children when we ourselves are so corrupt and incompetent.  We cant counsel ourselves--how can we counsel an innocent soul and show it how to live?  It takes a great man to be a successful teacher.  If its not in you you can't teach another.  It has to come from the heart to reach the heart.

Before it becomes posisble to break free of the shackles  of society, it is imperative to understand that your existence is a test and everything happens is directly from His command.  Everytime you deal with a person, place, or thing, it is an indirect dealing with Allah swt because they act according to His command.  Tomorrow we will wake up standing alone in front of Allah swt and all the people in our lives will be like mirages.  Allah swt sends them to us to test us.  If they benefit us, it is by His leave and for an appointed time.  And if they harm us, it is by His command and for an appointed time.  So if we break Allah swt's laws for people, it makes us the sorest losers--they are but a mirage, controlled by Alah, to see if we disobey Him to please them.

Know, also, that Allah swt is the only permanent feature of this dunya, in whose creation was etched its temporary, fleeting nature.  Folded into human creation was the desire for permaence.  It is a theme which has guided the pens of famous authors and poets since the beginning of literature.  The ony way, then, to attain fame, glory, happiness, and succes that will last forever, is to attain them through Alah.  and the only way they are attainted through Allah swt is to desire the opposite.  Fame and glory comes from Allah swt to those who run from it and fear it.  Happiness and success are shortlived if acquired for othe than Allah swt.  Success and happiness in regards to dunya matters are temporary because dunya is temporary.  Success and happiness in the path of allah is permanent because Allah swt is permanent.

Know, also, that, you are no more in control of the emotional condition of your heart than you are of its physical beating.  You heart exists between the two fingers of allah swt, whensoever He wills, He turns it this way and whensoever He wills, He turns it that way.  So always pray to Allah swt to keep your iman strong and guard the two doorways to your heart that He may bless you in it.  It is your most powerful weapon and is stronger than the greatest army.

Know, also, that you are guided towards what you seek.  If you seek dunya, you will be submerged in the soceity of individuals driven by material gain, deluded by the false promises life offers.  If you seek true and honorable men, learned men who are not changed by money, you search will yield fewer results but you will find such people.  There are poeple in this world who live for fame, glory, lust, wealth, etc--and this is 98% of earth's inhabitants.  But there are people, too, that have wealth and glory, but they don't use it for fame and reputation--they use if for Allah's deen.  Seek the company of the type of person you want to be for you will one day become your friends.

Know also, that love is never true until and unless it is for Allah swt alone.  and when it is, there is nothing more powerful or more true.  When you love someone for a particular reason--be it their humor, manners, or way they make you feel--that love is susceptible to falter.  One day either that reason will not hold true or you might change and not prefer it anymore.  If, however, you love for Allah swt's sake, that is everlasting and permanent because Allah is forever and will never change.  The foundation of your love will then, and only then, be true.  If you love someone for their beauty, that is temporary.  And even if it stays with them in old age, you are very likely to come across another whose beauty is superior.  If you love a person for their humor, a time will come when you won't find them funny anymore.  If you love someone for their money, this is the most shallow for money comes one day and is gone the next--few of us still believe this.  If you love for Allah swt, however, no matter if the person makes you happy or upset, you will always love them and do ihsan because you love them for Allah swt and He is forever.

O my soul, know, also, that ihsan is the cloak of a believer.  WHATEVER you do, do it to the best of your ability.  Be the best student, the best friennd, the best child, the best of everything that you are.  what motivates you to do ihsan?  gratitude.  Gratitude causes you to act whereas taqwa helps you to refrain. If you are grateful you will act, and you will act in the best manner.  You have resources that others don't have--be grateful and use them to serve Allah swt's deen.  He taught you how to read so read to help His deen and get closer to Him.  He gave you a comfortable home--luxuries that only kings of old were able to enjoy.  Use your resources not only for yourself, but to help others and make this world a better place, and to raise Allah swt's name in the lands.  Alalh swt gave you wealth so don't use it to sport brand names and fancy houses--use it to make a difference.  work...do something with the favors He has bestowed upon you.  If He gave you  intelligence, use it to get closer to Him.  If He gaev you a good job, make that a way you spread His deen.  Be grateful.  Not just by words-but use those blessings to your advantage to get closer to allah swt.  Do the deeds of gratitude--and that is nothing but ihsan.

O my soul, know that if you conquer yourself, if you can subdue the lowly desires that exist within, that Allah swt will set the world to serve you, and break the physical lawas of nature if necessary.  Be strong in faith, state clear, decisive words, pass just verdicts, and fill your hearts with knowledge so that your limbs will know wisdom.  Be close to people, satisfy the needs of the weak, and do it all cheerfully.  Seek unity and show compassion to others so they spread the mercy to others.  Treat material comfort as a burden which must constantly be unloaded.  Sleep less and eat less but let there be an increase in the tears that flow from your eyes.  O my soul, practice honesty in belief, word, and deed, for this is the path to honor and success.  Be loyal, steadfast, oft-forgiving, generous, sincere, and earnest.  Speak the truth, spend your wealth in Allah swt's path, control your passions, and restrain your wants.  Hold fast to honesty for it is a virtue that few are ever able to acquire.  Honesty fares you well with people as well as with Allah swt.  Be aware taht the way you are with Allah swt is how the world and its people will be with you.  If you obey Allah swt, they will obey you.  If you fear Allah swt,, the people will be in awe of you.  Submit to Allah swt completely, and you will find the world at your fingertips.  You will reach for something in the heavens and it will fall to your feet.  The impossible wil be made possible.  why?  because you were created to serve Allah swt and the world was CREATED to SERVE you.  It knows nothing but to follow your command--so long as you follow allah swt's.

Fear Allah and stay away from knowingly disobeying Him--if you do the latter the world will be repulsed by you, your personal relationships will suffer, and success will seem a farway thing.  But know that everyone is capable of doing some good--even the most cruel of villains.  But not everyone can refrain from an act.  Not everyone can resist temptation, say no to desires.  But it is only these that are successful.

O my soul, remember what is truly important--what matters is how hard you work according to your own ability.  Can you honestly say you've done justice to your human capacity?  what matters is sincerity.  Do what you must but mean it.  Be a well wisher for others in the ummah of Rasulullah ((S) as he was once a well-wisher for us.  Be honest in word and deed.  Do not live two lives--let your public be the same as your private and know what evil you do in private will be what brings extra pain at the time of death. Know that they way you are in your youth will be reflected in old age.  What you do echoes in eternity.  To have noor in old age, you must act righteously in youth.  To have use of your limbs in old age you must use them properly in youth.  Search for the right role models and you will find them.

the mountains were asked of their great strength and power
they said over all do we tower
but we can be defeated, you see
iron is stronger, but be a degree.

iron was asked, who do you fear?
it responded no one could bring it to tears.
what of fire? it melts you away...
ah, yes, but fire, too, is prey.

so fire was asked who got in its way
it roared it alone could consume things away
then in a hushed voice it finally spoke
that water so pure could make it choke.

so water was asked, how to control you?
it said it went where the wind blew.
so wind was asked, who do you obey?
only Allah, my lord, and I never stray.

yet above all this was an undefeatable weapon
the heart of a believer against all could win
